Register For Belmont Stakes 5K Run To Fight Prostate Cancer

Integrated Medical Foundation (IMF) invites the public to join the inaugural “Belmont Stakes Blue Ribbon 5K Run for Prostate Cancer” at Belmont Park on Sunday, June 3, at 7:15 p.m. This will be a 5K evening run through historic Belmont Park, ending at the actual finish line of the Belmont dirt track! This run is being held the weekend leading up to the Belmont Stakes, the third and final leg of the North American Triple Crown, and has the potential to do more to raise awareness of prostate cancer than any other Long Island event has ever done before.

The run is being conducted by IMF with the assistance of the New York Racing Association, the Greater Long Island Running Club, and the Elmont Chamber of Commerce.

Online registration is now open and applications are available at imfcares.org, glirc.org or by calling Linda or Mike at 349-7646.

Entry fees are $25 for those who pre-register and $30 for race-day registration.

Every pre-registered runner will be entitled to free admission to Belmont Park for Belmont’s “Family Fun Day” from noon to 4 p.m. on June 3. Come early and enjoy a full day of thoroughbred racing before the 5K.

The last 200 yards of the 5K Run will be on the dirt track at Belmont, with the finish at the exact finish line that great thoroughbreds like Secretariat, Affirmed, Ruffian and others have made their marks.

Packet and shirt pickup for the run will be on Saturday, June 2, at the Lynbrook Runner’s Stop at 20 Atlantic Avenue in Lynbrook from noon to 5 p.m., and on Sunday, June 3, in the Marquee Tent at Belmont Park from 6 to 7 p.m.

Funds raised from this event will support IMF’s free prostate cancer screenings, educational and support programs and its mission to promote awareness and early detection of prostate cancer. The Belmont Stakes was the crowning moment for many of the greatest horses ever, including Secretariat. Integrated Medical Foundation is working with Belmont Park, the New York Racing Authority, the Elmont Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Long Island Running Club to help make this event a “crowning moment” for prostate cancer awareness and early detection.

Integrated Medical Foundation is proud to have the support of their sponsors, including lead partners: Advanced Radiation Centers of New York, a division of IMP and Abbott Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Shawn Zimberg, medical director of Advanced Radiation Centers of New York said, “All the evidence that we have shows that early detection of prostate cancer saves lives. Although our technologies today are incredible, there is always a benefit from treating a cancer in its very earliest stages, and I wholeheartedly recommend prostate cancer screening for this reason. Please join us on June 3 for this very important cause.”

The run will be the prelude to the 143rd running of the Belmont Stakes, and every entrant will receive a top quality technical shirt to commemorate the occasion.  “Win, place and show” awards will be presented to the top male and female overall and masters finishers, as well as the top men and women finishers in each of 17 age groups from 12 and under through 85 plus. Timing and scoring are by Just Finish, Inc. (using the RFID computerized chip timing system with the chips built into the bib numbers).

The grand marshal of the run will be champion jockey Ramon Dominguez, the winner of the prestigious Eclipse Award in both 2010 and 2011.

Entry fees are $25 for those who pre-register and $30 for race-day registration.
