Students at Eastplain Elementary School in the Plainedge School District are working toward making their hearts healthier. Having joined the American Heart Association’s campaign called Jump Rope for Heart, the students not only learned about leading a healthy lifestyle, they also collected more than $4,810 for the organization for heart health awareness.
The students took to the blacktop area behind the school one sunny May afternoon and, working in teams, jumped rope for a period of 30 minutes. Each student received donations from family and friends based on their participation in the program. The proceeds collected were then donated to the American Heart Association. In recognition of their efforts, several students were the proud recipients of various awards following the jump rope event.
