News from the Chamber of Commerce: August 17, 2011

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. We waited long enough for it and now we’re complaining it’s too hot!

As most of you know, there are no meetings in July and we resume our regular schedule in August.

During the month of June we celebrated four Grand Openings; Swirls & Twirls Frozen Yogurt, 5270 Sunrise Hwy., OM Tara Yoga Studio, 518 A Broadway, Salumi Tapas and Wine Bar, 5600 Merrick Rd., and Pequa Physical and Aquatic Therapy, 913 North Broadway.

On July 22, we attended Massapequa Park Village Hall and honored Eagle Scouts, Gregory F. McManus and Christopher Spinosa of Troop 660. On Aug. 5, 2011 we also honored Eagle Scouts, Kyle P. Buttigieg, Michael A. Fritz, Christopher V. Kearney, and Mark D. Valerie of Troop 90. Congratulations to all of the Eagle Scouts for earning the highest award in Scouting.

On Tuesday, Aug. 23, at 2:15 p.m. we will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of South Shore School of Dance. Please join us for the ribbon cutting ceremony at 81 Grand Avenue.

We are in the process of planning our Annual Business Expo which will be held on Wednesday evening, Nov. 9. Details will be forthcoming.

I hope most of you were able to attend the free “2011 Music Under the Stars” concerts held at Town of Oyster Bay Parks. I certainly enjoyed them! If you didn’t get to attend, you missed some great entertainment while enjoying the outdoors. Supervisor John Venditto and his staff did an incredible job. Congratulations to Public Safety! They maintained order while getting everyone in and out of the parks in a safe and orderly manner. Great Job!

I want to thank everyone for renewing their membership in a timely fashion. Glad to have you aboard. I look forward to meeting those of you whom I have not met at one of our upcoming general meetings.

I would like to thank everyone who marched with us in the July 4 parade. Members are always welcome to march with us in our Memorial Day and July 4 parades. Bring the whole family. It’s great to wave to all those Massapequa residents who celebrate America.

My special thanks to John Licari of Allstate Communications Corp. for sponsoring this month’s President Message.

The next General Meeting will be held on Thursday, Aug. 25, noon at Sergio’s located at 5422 Merrick Road, Massapequa, 541-6554. Bring a raffle prize to promote your business.
