Nicholas V. DeScetto, of North Massapequa, passed away Nov. 10, 2009. Husband of the late Phyllis. Father of Nicholas (Joanne) DeScetto and the late Barbara (John) Timpanaro. Grandfather of Nick, Teri, Thomas, Barbara Ann Reed, John Jr., and 12 great-grandchildren. Brother of Nettie and Dora. Arrangements were made by Arthur F. White Funeral Home. A religious service was held Nov. 13 with interment following at Calverton National Cemetery.

Frieda (Brolin) Garman, of Washingtonville, NY, former resident of Massapequa Park, passed away peacefully on Nov. 2, 2009 at the age of 92, surrounded by her three children, Lawrence Edward Brolin (wife Eileen), Lynda J. Brolin and Beverly Joanne Brolin. She was born in Astoria, NY, on Oct. 10, 1917, the daughter of Andrew and Hannah Bergh.

Lucas A. Balich, of N. Massapequa, died on Sept. 17, 2009, at the age of 100. He was a member of the North Massapequa Fire Department. He was predeceased by his wife Josephine, their daughter Geraldine and their son Lucas. He is survived by his brother Mike, nephew Christie Balich and nieces, Janet Todrick and Joan D’Andrea. Arrangements were made by the Arthur F. White Funeral Home. Funeral Mass at St. Kilian RC Church. Interment Pinelawn Memorial Park.

Louis M. Ramu, 83, of West Nyack, NY, formerly of Massapequa, died on Sept. 10, 2009. A WWII US Navy veteran, he was a retired NCPD detective and former vice president of the Nassau PBA. He was directly responsible for the passage of the statewide police 20-year Retirement Act. Partner of Mary Cerberville. Father of Consuelo Gross (the late Robert), Louis Ramu (Carol) and Philip Ramu (Carol). Grandpops of eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also survived by former wife Pilar Ramu and his extended loved ones, Mark Cerberville (Julie) and their three children. Arrangements were made by the Arthur F. White Funeral Home. A service was held Sept. 14 at the funeral home. Interment Calverton National Cemetery. Louis’ family requests that donations in his memory be sent to the Lustgarten Foundation, 1111 Stewart Ave., Bethpage, NY 11714.

Doris Kliegman, 82, passed away on Monday, Aug. 24, in the care of her loving family. She was a victim of breast cancer.

A resident of Long Island for over 50 years, Doris’ message has had a positive effect on her family and friends. Her loving and thoughtful approach to life touched many lives. The impact on those who have had the good fortune to have Doris in their lives cannot be measured. It can only be carried forward by all of those who knew her. Doris was a mentor and confidante. Her courage and positive attitude will always serve as a shining example to inspire one during times of adversity and to enjoy each day of one’s life to the fullest.

At 92, Marion “Tess” Teslik was an independent, quick-witted, working woman with a flair for fashion.

Growing up in Jamaica, Queens, Ms. Teslik attended finishing school after her high school days and later enrolled at Fordham University.

She attended three years of college before meeting her husband, Alexander, Jr., while on a train traveling between New York and Connecticut. They later married and Ms. Teslik, an only child, went on to have three children, Alexander, Steven and Melanie.
