George H. “Luke” Marr, 91, of Massapequa Park, died Nov. 4, 2013. A WWII U.S. Navy SeaBees veteran. Former Parishioner of St. Teresa RC Church, Brooklyn. Beloved husband of 65 years to Helen. Loving father of Peggy Cusack, Mary, John (Kim), Jane and Tom. Proud grandfather of six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A Memorial Mass was held on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 10:45 a.m., at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church, Massapequa Park. John Archipolo Jr., of Massapequa Park, died on November 11, 2013. Beloved father of Noah and Sage. Herbert J. Pluschau, the superintendent of Massapequa schools from 1982-88 has died. Herb was a career educator in the Massapequa schools since he joined the staff as a physical education teacher in 1953. He held many positions during his 35 year tenure, including basketball coach, high school guidance counselor and vice principal of Massapequa High School. In 1967, he moved into the Central Office as administrative assistant and became assistant superintendent in 1972. After retirement, Herb founded Chief’s Associates, a firm that conducted superintendent searches for several Long Island school districts. Herb is past president of the Massapequa Hall of Fame, an organization that acknowledges the accomplishments of alumni of the Massapequa schools and grants scholarships for high school graduates.
Martha H. Wiggins, of Massapequa, passed away on June 1, 2012. Wife of the late Donald. Mother of Judith Dowd, Barbara Greeley and Donald Wiggins. Charles Lengler Jr., 92, formerly of North Massapequa. passed away April 21, 2012 while residing in Little River, SC. Husband of Gizelle. Father of Linda McGlone, Donna Hallaran and Janet Dagostino. Bernard T. Clark, of Massapequa, passed away unexpectedly March 12, 2012. Husband of Renee. Father of Lisa Shirreffs (Thomas), Charlene Andros (Kevin) and Janine Moloney (Mike). The St. Rose of Lima community is mourning the death of Reverend Monsignor Daniel Hurley, who served as pastor of that parish from 1995 to 2008 and who passed away recently at age 78.
A native of Glen Cove and a graduate of Cathedral College and St. John’s University, Msgr. Hurley was ordained in 1959. He served at various parishes on Long Island before first coming to Our Lady of Lourdes in Massapequa Park as an associate pastor. Two years later, he was assigned to St. Rose of Lima, where he served until his retirement in June 2008. In the fall of that year, Msgr. Hurley came back to St. Rose to serve as a temporary administrator.
