Town of Oyster Bay residents gathered at the town’s 9/11 Memorial at Tobay Beach on the evening of Sept. 10 for the 2009 September 11 Memorial Ceremony. The somber event included readings and prayers, musical selections and a candlelight ceremony.
The town’s memorial monument is inscribed with the names of Town of Oyster Bay residents lost on September 11, 2001. The memorial also features a steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center, which is positioned in the direct line of sight where the Twin Towers once stood.
“The town’s September 11 memorial provides a serene and peaceful surrounding, making it a fitting backdrop for a place of remembrance …” said Supervisor John Venditto. “I hope that all residents will continue to visit this memorial throughout the year to help us remember our loved ones lost. It is a moving tribute which helps us memorialize our loved ones who were taken from us too soon.”
