The Massapequa Preserve stream and drainage pond-dredging project took on another step recently. The laying of the underground piping connecting the water flow in the Massapequa Creek from Linden Street south to the Massapequa Lake at Merrick Road took place. The purpose of this part of the project is to pump water from the lake underground to a pumping system at Linden Street and back into the creek. The project when completed will keep water circulating and much cleaner. Water in the creek and drainage ponds will be kept cleaner from the filtration systems already in place at the catch basins that funneled roadways storm water into the preserves drainage ponds.
The Massapequa Park Merchants Association recently held its annual summer festival in cooperation with the Village of Massapequa Park. The weather was great and brought out throngs of shoppers and a day in the sun for local residents who also lined up for an array of foods at the international food fest booths. Children’s amusements, Martial Arts shows and a magic show made the event a happy day for all.
On Saturday, Aug. 8, the Massapequa Fire Department hosted its 15th Annual Emergency Service Canoe Challenge. The race consisted of a two-mile course to the Great South Bay, beginning and ending at the John J. Burns Park.
