On Monday, June 27, Massapequa High School held its 55th annual commencement exercises at Hofstra University with 648 students receiving their diplomas.
The high point of the ceremony came once the presentation of diplomas was complete. In unison, students moved their tassels from left to right, the symbolic gesture indicating that they were now officially graduates. When Massapequa High School Principal Dr. Barbara Williams said, “Congratulations…and class dismissed,” a flurry of blue graduation caps filled the air.
Class Valedictorian Alexa Ann Savino, Class Salutatorian Natalie Ann Sabia and Senior Class President Richard Staubitz all gave speeches.
During the ceremony, the stage had a blue and gold Class of 2011 banner flanked by two chiefs’ heads. The stage itself was lined in the front by red rose bushes with pink petunias and ficus trees providing the color at its rear, all a fitting tribute to another great graduating class at Massapequa High School.
