Looks like John Carpenter, the Massapequa Movie Man will again be giving all of us the gift of laughter as on June 11 at the Massapequa Park Library is featuring a forgotten pre-code comedy treasure. His cinema Saturdays have been attracting residents from as far off as Queens County and local film fans wait eagerly for Carpenter’s monthly showing on June 11 at 2 p.m. The 40 Harbor Lane venue will be an afternoon of laughter starting with The Movie man’s jovial and charismatic education lead in lecture followed by a rare Charley Chase two-reel comedy short, Arabian Tights, which will be followed by the fast-paced, snappy-dialogued, The Half Naked Truth, starring Lupe Velez, Lee Tracy, and gravel-voiced Eugene Pallette.
Filled with risqué situations and situations, these two similarly themed movies focus on powerhouse personalities, lies and con jobs that not only get the characters into trouble but also are traits that musically and comically get them out of them. It’s no wonder why 40 Harbor Lane has become the talk of the town and why the Lindenhurst Memorial Library has taken the hint from them and this month will be initiating Movie Man Mondays.
The movies and the music coming from 40 Harbor Lane are perfect for patron pleasure and this movie will feature Lupe Velez singing, O! Mister Carpenter. Hey, can this be just a coincidence? Now we might get a glimpse into just why John Carpenter has chosen this Classic 1932 screwball comedy, but all who have come to trust his picks will love this program of comedy and songs.
