Massapequa HS Class of 2009 Valedictorian, Salutatorian

Linda Yeung

Massapequa High School – Main Campus Valedictorian for the Class of 2009 Linda Yeung will be attending the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business where she was accepted with preferred admission.

 

During her years at Massapequa High School, Linda was entrenched in the district’s music department, where she nurtured her talent as a clarinetist and pianist. Linda was a member of the highly selective All-Eastern Band, a two-time member of the New York All-State Band and Orchestra, and the recipient of the Nassau Music Educators Association All-County titles every year for clarinet.

Linda also developed strong leadership skills throughout high school, volunteering at the Young People’s Cultural Arts Workshop, serving as a Leader in Training for the American Cancer Society’s Camp Adventure and President of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Linda was an active member of the Mock Trial Team, for which she was Vice President, and also was inducted into the National Honor Society.

Linda graduates Massapequa High School – Main Campus as an Advanced Placement Scholar with Honor and a weighted average of 4.641. The Massapequa Public School District wishes Linda much success in her future endeavors and at the University of Michigan.

Alex Novet

Massapequa High School – Main Campus is pleased to announce that Alex Novet is the Salutatorian for the Class of 2009.

Alex has accomplished much during his years in Massapequa High School on both a local and global level, using his leadership skills as the Founder and President of the Darfur Awareness Club. This group of concerned students planned and facilitated events to raise awareness and funds to help address the genocide occurring on a regular basis in that war-torn nation.

Alex also trained as an HIV/AIDS Peer Educator, and served as Vice President of the organization. He was a member and Vice President of the National Honor Society, President of Mathletes, participated in the French Club and served as an Officer in the Ladies and Gentlemen’s Society.

Alex was named a National Merit Scholar and completed the most rigorous course of study, including multiple Advanced Placement (AP) courses that the Massapequa Public School District has to offer.

As a result, Alex is graduating with a weighted average of 4.613 and AP Scholar with Distinction status. The district wishes Alex well at the University of Chicago, where he will study economics and international relations.
