Don’t forget, this weekend kicks off a week of Independence Day celebrations in the Village of Massapequa Park.
The festivities begin on Saturday, June 27, when the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 15 will host Irish Night in Brady Park from 7 to 10 p.m. Refreshments and Irish memorabilia will be on sale.
Saturday, July 4 constitutes the biggest event of the week. The Village of Massapequa Park will sponsor its annual Independence Day Parade beginning at 11 a.m. The parade will begin at Lake Shore Drive and Walker Street and travel south on Park Boulevard at Front Street.
Trophies will be awarded for the Best Appearing Color Guard, Best Appearing Marching Units, 1st and 2nd Place Music Groups, Best Float and Best Overall Unit. The Massapequa parade is one of the largest on Long Island, so get there early with your lawn chairs.
The festivities don’t end with the parade. On Sunday, July 5, there will be breakfast at Brady Park from 8 to 11 a.m. Tickets are $3 for adults and $2 for children.
Also on Sunday, July 5, the Massapequa Roadrunners Club will sponsor their 28th Annual Firecracker 5K Run. The race will begin promptly at 5 p.m. on Park Boulevard just north of Clark Boulevard in Massapequa Park. Awards will be given for the first male and female finishers from Massapequa Park, plus others.
For those runners 10 and under, there will be a quarter-mile race beginning at 4 p.m. Residents can register to run by contacting the Massapequa Roadrunners Club or stop in Village Hall for an application. There will be post-race refreshments and raffles.
