Massapequa High School Offers Pre-school Program

The school’s Family and Consumer Science Department, in conjunction with its Child Study course, will once again sponsor a preschool program for district residents.

High school students enrolled in the course have successfully completed the Parenting and Child Development course and are now ready for a hands-on approach to learning, according to Anna Gregg, child study director for the district. The students will plan, prepare and implement interdisciplinary activities within a thematic unit for the preschool students.

Preschool will begin the week of March 10, 2014 and continue for about 11 weeks until “graduation”. There are two sessions — Tuesdays and Thursdays or Wednesdays and Fridays, each from 9:55 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Children must attend both days of the chosen session. A donation of $60 per child to help defray expenses is encouraged.

For more information and to print the application go to the district website at and click on “Departments” to find Ms. Fierro-Gregg’s Child Study/Preschool website on the Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher page.

To be eligible, children must be between the ages of three, as of March 11, 2014, and five but not attending kindergarten and must be toilet trained. Enrollment in the popular program is limited to 18 children per session and selection will be by lottery drawing with Massapequa residents with previous students receiving priority.

Applications will also be available until Dec. 20, 2013 between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the front security desk or in the General Office of Massapequa High School. Copies of completed applications must be returned to the General Office by Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014. Acceptance notifications will be mailed by Jan. 25, 2014.
