New York American Water congratulates Nicole Mehr and Timothy Duerr, both of Massapequa Park, for being selected as recipients of the National Association of Water Companies (NAWC) New York Chapter Scholarship. As a member of the NAWC, New York American Water presented each student with a $2,500 scholarship.
“Nicole and Timothy both showed great passion for the water industry and the environment in their applications and essays,” said William Varley, president of New York American Water and Chairman of the New York Chapter of the NAWC. “We would like to congratulate them on winning these prestigious awards and for their commitment to their studies. Our hope is that this scholarship helps them to achieve success during their collegiate years and in the future.”
The New York Chapter NAWC launched the scholarship program in 2011 for high school seniors who wish to pursue a career in the water industry or related fields. As a participant of this program and member of the New York Chapter NAWC, New York American Water distributed $10,000 in scholarships to local high school students in its service territories who are attending college in New York and furthering their studies.
Mehr, a Massapequa High School senior, plans to study geology at Hartwick College. Duerr, also a Massapequa High School senior, plans to study biology at SUNY Cortland.
