The History of Nunley’s

Nunley’s Amusement Park was a beloved family destination for many Long Islanders from 1939 until it closed in 1995. Famed for its carousel, it also had a Ferris wheel, roller coaster, arcade and miniature golf course. Nunley’s is reminiscent of a happy time, warm summer days, and the delights of youth. The park holds a strong place in the memories of many Long Islanders. Author and Long Island resident Marisa Berman speaks of her experiences there as a child and about her book, Images of America: Nunley’s Amusement Park. The Massapequa Public library presents a workshop for painters with some prior experience using oils and acrylics. Beginners can paint using oil pastels, regular pastels or colored pencils. Mixed media also included for consideraton. Workshop may include portraits, still life, teacher’s reference materials or photographs. Class size is limited, $55 due at registration. The Developmental Disabilities Institute will once again be heating things up with Long Island’s best rock-n-roll bands to benefit children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities at Mulcahy’s Pub and Music Hall in Wantagh on Sunday, March 9 at 3 p.m. For a $30 donation guests will enjoy the sounds of legendary local bands, gift baskets auction, raffles, food, cash bar and the company of hundreds of fellow Long Islanders.
