Holiday Victorian Tea

The Massapequa Public Library, 40 Harbor Ln., holds a Holiday Victorian Tea event Dec. 4 at 1 p.m. Barbara Sheridan will demonstrate how to host a proper Victorian Tean, complete with scones, lemon poppy seed bread and clotted cream with strawberries. Pre-registration is required by calling Jody Brower at 516-799-0770, ext. 316. Leave your name and phone number and the library will call you back and advise if there is room in the class. There is a $5 registration fee. Participants are asked to bring their own china teacup.

Alzheimer’s Disease: What you Need to Know

The Massapequa Bar Harbour Public Library hosts this even Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. The presentation, “Alzheimer’s Disease: What you Need to Know,” features speaker Mary Ann Malack-Rago, Executive Director/CEO of the Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center. Among the questions discussed will be: the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, the warning signs, research, and in what ways the Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center can assist local families.

Defensive Driving Courses

The Massapequa Public Library offers a defensive driving course for all ages Dec. 7 at 9:30 a.m. There is a $35 fee per person. Registration is required by calling Empire Safety Council at 631-842-8234.

Musical Salute To Molly Picon

The star of Yiddish theatre, Molly Picon, receives a tribute from the Massapequa Library, 40 Harbor Lane, in the Bar Harbour Auditorium, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Diane Cypkin — through English narration — tells the life story of this exciting first lady of the Yiddish stage through the countless songs she sang and often wrote. This concert, a tribute to a legend, is a cornucopia of tangos, waltzes and fox trots that will have you humming for days. For more information, contact Jody Brower at 516-799-0770.

The Board of Trustees of the Massapequa Public Library will hold its monthly board meeting Dec. 9 at 7:45 p.m. at 40 Harbor Ln.

Book Discussion

The Massapequa Public Library, 40 Harbor Ln., will hold a contemporary book discussion group Dec. 10 at 12:30 p.m. This month’s selection is Daddy’s Gone a Hunting by Mary Higgins Clark. Light refreshments will be served.


Saturday, Dec. 14

Cookie Walk

The Community United Methodist Church, 100 Park Blvd., holds its Cookie Walk Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A Delicious assortment of homemade holiday cookies will be on sale for $10 a pound. Personalized gingerbreads and Christmas ornaments will also be available for sale. All cookies are holiday wrapped for gift giving. For more information, call the church office at 516-541-7008.

Shop For A Cause Holiday Fair

Enchanting Events and the Long Island Business Group will host a holiday shopping fair benefiting the Nassau Suffolk Chapter of the Autism Society of America at the American Legion in Massapequa, 66 Veterans Blvd. There will be more than 30 vendors, as well as performers, raffles and a visit from Santa Claus. Bring the entire family for this fantastic event and find the perfect gift for all your loved ones.

All Aboard The Polar Express

David Engel presents “All Aboard The Polar Express” for children ages three and up at the Massapequa Public Library, 40 Harbor Ln., in the Bar Harbour Auditorium, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. The Magical Conductor invites you and your family aboard for fun. Bring your imagination with you as he punches your ticket, answers questions about Santa and the Elves, keeps his passengers happy and asks the age old question “Do You believe...?” Tickets are available in both Massapequa library buildings beginning Dec. 1. Advanced Microsoft Word

Learn advanced word processing features including Mail Merge, Autotext, AutoCorrect and more at this seminar at the Massapequa Public Library, 40 Harbor Ln. in the Bar Harbour Library from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. This hands-on class will station two-guests to a computer for some real learning while doing. Registration Due For Art Workshop

The Massapequa Public Library, 40 Harbor Ln., will host an art workshop led by Gloria Glick. The workshop will commence Jan. 8 and run for eight Wednesdays at 10 a.m. Pre-registration is required by Dec. 18.
