Tackapausha Preserve Hike

The Friends of Tackapausha Preserve will lead a free hike, this Sunday, Oct. 28, at 2 p.m. The hike should take between one and a half and two hours. Participants will walk approximately three miles through forests displaying brilliant fall foliage in Nassau County’s first nature preserve. Children aged 10 and above are welcome. In case of rain, the event will be cancelled. For a small fee, a visit may be made to the adjacent natural history museum before the hike. The hike is co-sponsored by the L.I. Greenbelt Trail Conference. Those attending will meet in the museum parking lot, which is located on Washington Ave. in Seaford one half of a block north of Merrick Road. Fourth Annual Bands Battling Autism

The 4th Annual Bands Battling Autism takes place at the Stuart Thomas Manor in Farmingdale. Bands composed of local middle school and high school students perform for a chance to perform at the New York Islanders Autism Awareness Night. The proceeds from the event are donated to support the 13th Annual Long Island Walk Now for Autism Speaks. Advanced ticket price is $12/each. It will be $15 at the door the day of the event. Caring For The Caregiver

Caring for the Caregiver is a support group for those responsible for others. In Massapequa, there are two support groups led by trained facilitators who help caregivers address their situation and offer support and understanding of the task they are doing. On the first and third Tuesdays of each month, a group meets at the Massapequa Reformed Church from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Grace Episcopal Church hosts a support group on the second and fourth Tuesdays in the Grace Day School building from 7:30 to 9 p.m. If you are, or have been, a caregiver, you are welcome to join either or both groups at any time. If you know of others who are caregivers, encourage them to join one or both groups. The program is open to all members of the Massapequa community.
