Doo Wop Wed Widing Hood

Presented by the Children’s Theatre. It’s the 1950s, hula-hoops are in high demand, and so is Little Red Riding Hood. Wise Prince Jason, Strong Prince Justin and ordinary Loud Prince Frank all want to woo Red Riding Hood. So the king and queen hire the Fairy Godmother to set three tasks for the princes. Only the prince who can find the missing girl, defeat the dragon and awaken a castle visitor from her slumber earns the right to woo Wed Widing Hood... that is, Red Riding Hood. Alas, Little Red’s couch-potato parents don’t want to lose their little girl. How else will they get their cookies delivered to grandmother? So they hire the evil queen to thwart the Fairy Godmother’s contest. Rummage Sale

Shed the Meds

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo Jr. (R-Merrick), the Nassau County Police Department, and the Village of Massapequa Park are joining together for a Shed the Meds to help residents safely dispose of unused or expired medications. The program will be held between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Brady Park, 1000 Lake Shore Dr., Massapequa Park. Residents can drive up, drop off old or unused medications and drive away. Walk-a-thon

The 12th Annual Walk-a-thon, to benefit the AMT Children of Hope Foundation, sponsored by the Nassau District, Order of the Eastern Star, will be held in Westfield Sunrise Mall. Registration is at 9 a.m. on the lower level, in front of Sears and the kick-off is at 9:30. Everyone is welcome; all ages and abilities. You need not walk to participate. Blood Drive

At the North Massapequa Fire Department’s Headquarters, 1000 Broadway, N. Massapequa, from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. To qualify as a blood donor, a person must between the ages of 17 and 75 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and not have donated blood within the last 56 days. Beatles Tribute Band Performance

Strawberry Fields, a Beatles tribute band featuring members of Broadway’s hit musical Beatlemania, will perform a benefit concert for the Susan Satriano Memorial Foundation at 8 p.m. in the Massapequa High School auditorium, 4925 Merrick Rd., Massapequa. The concert, hosted by the Care Club of Massapequa High School, brings a night of Beatles favorites to those of all ages while helping graduating seniors suffering difficult circumstances attend college in the fall. Walk in the Woods

Amante Kids Benefit Concert

On Dec. 28, 2011, tenor Michael Amante’s (one of The NY Tenors) wife Seema passed away suddenly leaving Michael and his three young children (9,8,6) with financial difficulties. There will be a benefit concert at 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady Of Lourdes Church auditorium, Massapequa Park. Performing will be Daniel Rodriguez, Andy Cooney, Ronan Tynan. Crop Walk

Join in the 2012 Crop Walk hosted by the St. David’s Social Ministry group. Meet at St. David’s Lutheran Church, 20 Clark Blvd., Massapequa Park. Sign-in at 1 p.m. Walkers are asked to bring friends and nonperishable food items for each member who joins the walk, that will be delivered to a local food pantry. Active Parenting Program

Conducted by YES Community Counseling Center for parents of elementary school age children beginning today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Active Parenting is a six-session program that was established to equip parents to face the challenges during the lifelong journey as a parent. The program will help to enhance the skills parents already have, and/or incorporate new skills as children move through the different developmental times in their lives. The program will take place at the YES office, 75 Grand Ave., Massapequa. The cost of the program is $60 for Massapequa, Plainedge and Farmingdale residents; $80 for all others. Port North Spring Boys Basketball

Port North is a 3-year-old independent basketball team based out of Port Washington that plays year round in the super league at Island Garden and various tournaments in the metropolitan area. The program currently has a combined record of 30 - 3 in the winter super league. The emphasis is on teaching the fundamentals, developing good practice habits and preparing players for middle and high school basketball. The team has a professional trainer with more than 20 years experience. We are currently looking for experienced and dedicated basketball players in grades four through 10 who are interested in trying out for spring and AAU basketball.
