Free Irish Night Concert

The Ancient Order of Hibernian’s, Division 15 of Massapequa Park, presents an evening of Irish entertainment with live traditional Irish music by the Jerry Finley Band and featuring the Innishfree School of Champion Irish Step dancers with a performance by the Tara Pipes and Drums of Massapequa. Festivities start at 7 p.m. at Brady Park, Front St., in the Village of Massapequa Park. Homemade Irish soda bread, giftware and refreshments will be available. Walls of Honor Dedication at Veteran’s Plaza

The Nassau County Veterans Monument Fund, Inc., will be dedicating the 300 new names on the Walls of Honor at Veteran’s Plaza in Eisenhower Park at 10 a.m. The event will take place rain or shine.

Bingo For Kids/Families

On Tuesday evenings you can fun with your family at a special bingo designed just for kids. At Temple Beth-El of Bellmore, 1373 Bellmore Rd., N. Bellmore, you can play bingo for prizes (not cash) on June 30, July 7, July 21, Aug. 4 and Aug. 18. Doors open at 6 p.m. and games begin at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5 per player. An adult must accompany the children. Adult play is optional. Bring a marker or purchase one at the event. The snack bar will be open at 6 p.m. and will serve a variety of reasonably priced items. No food can be brought with you into the temple because strict kosher food laws are observed.

Chicken BBQ

The Wantagh Memorial Congregational Church, 1845 Wantagh Ave., Wantagh, will be holding its annual July 4 Chicken BBQ at noon on the lawn behind the church. Fixings include: potato salad, coleslaw, potato chips, cranberry sauce, rolls, etc., and all sorts of desserts. The price is $12 for a quarter of a chicken and $14 for a half of a chicken. LI Crisis Center Seeks Volunteers

Long Island Crisis Center (LICC), the oldest 24-hour, seven-day-a-week crisis intervention and suicide prevention hotline, is looking for volunteers for the upcoming Volunteer Counselor Training Program. Those interested in becoming a volunteer telephone crisis intervention counselor with LICC must first call 826-0244 to schedule an interview. No experience is necessary to volunteer and the hours are flexible to fit the individual needs of volunteers. All counselors must begin with orientation training. The free comprehensive orientation training program takes place over three evenings in LICC’s office in Bellmore. The next training sessions will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. on July 9, 16 and 23. Garage Sale

YES Community Counseling Center, 75 Grand Ave., will be conducting its Annual Garage Sale at the back of the offices, New York Ave., between Central Ave. and Hicksville Rd.), from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Items, old and new (but saleable) are being collected. If you have any items that you would like to donate (all contributions tax deductible) call 799-3203. Proceeds from the event will be used to support programs and services to youth and families. Due to recent county funding cuts, your help and support is needed.

Midshore Mother’s Center Summer Fun 2009

The Midshore Mothers’ Center invites you to take part in the 11th Annual Summer Fun Program. You can register for six-week summer programs, Daddy and Me T-Ball and Mommy and Me in the Park or take advantage of the lower group rates at venues such as amusement parks, museums, aquariums and zoos. Registration is now being taken for the summer Mommy and Me program. This is a weekly outdoor program for preschoolers at least eighteen months old, accompanied by a parent, which includes free play, snack and story time, crafts and music. The six-week session begins June 30.

Learn Sign Language

The Mill Neck Foundation for Deaf Ministry Sign Language Camp for Hearing Kids invites children ages 8 to 16 to learn a new language and have fun. Held on the campus of Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf, the camp teaches beginning sign language in an enjoyable and unique way. In two sessions (July 13 through 17 and July 20 through 24), campers are divided by age (ages 8 to 12 and 13 to 16). Through activities, games and arts and crafts, campers are taught the sign language alphabet and numbers as well as signs for animals, foods, colors and much more. Campers in session one will have basic conversations in sign by the end of the camp and those with a prior knowledge of the language in session two will build on their current skills and focus on conversational sign. At the end of each week, a special presentation will be held for friends and family about what the students learned. Campers eat lunch daily with deaf students and interact with Mill Neck students during games, storytelling and swimming sessions. Classes are led by deaf instructors with hearing teacher assistance. Camp is held from 8:30 am to 3:30 p.m. daily and costs $230 per child (includes lunch and a book, arts and crafts, a notebook, a bag and more). Enrollment is limited. Art in the Park Event Seeks Local Artists

The Women’s Club of Farmingdale is sponsoring the Second Annual Art Show and Sale on Sept. 12 (rain date Sept. 13) on the Village Green in Farmingdale. Artists are invited to bring their paintings, drawings, photographs and sculptures to show. Ribbons will be awarded for first, second, third place and honorable mention placement. Reservations are available now. Entry fee is $50 (not refundable) for a 10-foot square area. Call For Craft Vendors

Mill Neck Manor is calling for vendors of handmade items for its Annual Fall Harvest Festival, held on Oct. 10 and 11, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A favorite tradition on LI, visitors eagerly await the festival for its crafts, apples, pumpkins, pies and other delicious treats. Country crafts, offering handmade items and holiday gifts, are one of the festival’s main features. If you make or sell crafts and feel that you would be a great addition to the Festival, you are encouraged to apply. Vendors are assigned an outdoor space (10’x10’) with a table and two chairs. All vendors are required to have a tent or canopy; those vendors who do not own a suitable tent may rent one from Mill Neck Manor for a small fee.
