The Portledge School Lady Panthers skated to a 2-1 win over Morristown Beard School in the Championship game of the Women's Interscholastic Hockey League of the Mid Atlantic (WIHLMA) playoffs.
Sophomores Ashley Wade of Massapequa and Alyssa Parke of Lynbrook scored for Portledge, and sophomore goaltender Olivia Rivera of Sayville made 25 saves to secure the win.
Portledge was seeded first going into the playoffs after compiling a regular season league mark of 8-0-1. The Lady Panthers' overall mark was 14-5-1 with some major wins coming over Canterbury, Lawrenceville, Rye Country Day and The Hill School.
The WIHLMA championship game marked the end of the secondary school career of two-time League All-Star and three-time Portledge Most Valuable Player Siena Falino of Centerport. Siena will continue her ice hockey career at Division I Northeastern University next year.
