Students in kindergarten through fifth grade at John H. West Elementary School in the Plainedge School District have been learning the principals of and skills necessary to successfully play miniature golf during their physical education classes - only they have been playing the favorite game with a bit of a twist.
At the start of the Christmas holiday season, the school's gymnasium was transformed into a holiday display, complete with twinkle lights and holiday movies, which were projected onto a large screen at the front of the room. During their physical education classes, the students had the chance to travel through the course's nine holes.
Following the students' lessons, and keeping with the holiday spirit, the school's teachers will have the chance to participate in a charity golf outing to raise funds for a local organization.
