As a culmination to a physical education unit on floor hockey, students at John H. West Elementary School in the Plainedge School District had a reinforcing lesson on character education and good sportsmanship when Arena Hostess Dina and mascot Sparky the Dragon from the New York Islanders hockey team visited with the school's third through fifth graders.

The program, which was called the "We're All Islanders" school assembly, spoke to the importance of teamwork and how students, teachers, and school staff members can work together to accomplish a goal. The assembly included a video of the current team members relaying what traits make a good teammate, a challenge for the students to work in a group to try and dress in head-to-toe goalie gear while a teacher worked to accomplish the task alone, and concluded with a loud chat of "Let's Go Islanders."

As they left the program, the students each received an Islanders gift bag, which included two ticket vouchers for an upcoming Islanders game. Additionally, the school's physical education program was presented with a set of floor hockey equipment. Logo
