As New York State Assessment scores are reported from Albany, a recent Newsday study of 194 schools found that the Massapequa Public School District had five elementary schools that ranked in the top 21 schools out of 194 across Long Island for grade 6 Math Assessment scores.
At the top of the Newsday list was Fairfield Elementary School, with a ranking of No. 1. One hundred percent of Fairfield's sixth-grade students met the State standards, with 16.8 percent at a level 3 and 83.2 percent at a level 4, which exceeds the State standards. East Lake ranked ninth out of 194 schools, and Unqua and Raymond J. Lockhart were 18th and 19th respectively. Birch Lane ranked 21st, bringing the number to five Massapequa Elementary Schools to be distinguished for the State Assessments in math.
Fairfield Elementary School Principal Jason Esposito was pleased with the Newsday report.
"We are so proud of this tremendous accomplishment," he stated. "This is a tribute to our students, their families and our staff."
Esposito praised the sixth-grade team and the teachers who support math instruction at Fairfield, but also added, "To attain such amazing results reflects on the hard work of the entire district staff, starting in kindergarten."
Sixth-grade teacher Susan Miller agreed. "I am so proud to see our children's hard work translate into such amazing achievement," she said. "This tremendous accomplishment was only possible because of the foundation that these children were provided with in all of their years at Fairfield Elementary School."
Assistant Principal Terri Steinhauer also congratulated Mrs. Miller and the Fairfield staff. "We are thrilled that everyone's hard work and efforts have been realized," she said.
