Class is back in session and on Wednesday, Sept. 3, the Plainedge School District welcomed students back after a long summer vacation.

At each school throughout the district, teachers and administrators were on hand to greet the students as they began another school year.

Parents were on hand at the Eastplain Elementary School, John H. West and Schwarting, to see the youngsters off for their first day. None seemed more excited than the newest students, the kindergarten class.

At Plainedge Middle School, students were greeted with a warm welcome by Principal Dr. Mary Hannon and her staff. Chatters over classroom assignments echoed throughout the halls.

At Plainedge High School, anxious students were excited to see their friends and share stories about their summer vacations.

"There is nothing like the first day of school because you can actually feel the excitement," said Christine P'Simer, superintendent. "We look forward to a wonderful '08-'09 school year."
