Since 2004, Massapequa Park's movie man John Carpenter has been a mainstay at the East Meadow Public Library hosting his classic movie programs which have featured films from his own much sought-after rare collection that to date numbers almost 3,000 prints of titles.
Knowing that a love of John's is to hear an audience's laughter gotten from one of our American visual masterpieces of days gone by, program director Jude Schanzer has deemed that on June 19 at 7:30 p.m., the East Meadow Library will have John lecture and present one of his favorite films It's In The Bag is a 1944 comedy starring Fred Allen, Jack Benny, Jerry Colonna, Robert Benchley, Don Ameche, William Bendix and Rudy Vallee.
This rare comedy masterpiece was last shown on TV in the 1970s and Carpenter has not only digitally restored it for presentation purposes but has included opening footage from an actual Benny TV show to open the film where he talks about working with Allen on the production that then follows.
At the movie's end Carpenter has included a TV program of Benny's that not only features Fred Allen but Eddie Cantor as well. A night's laughter is assured at the East Meadow Library and computer artist Kelly Gordon has created a special poster to mark this event.
