Rose Josephine Bertelle, 85, a resident of San Bernadino, CA for the past 11 years, passed away suddenly on March 28, 2008. Rose was surrounded by family, at the home of her daughter, Barbara Schierhold, Lake Arrowhead, CA. Born August 23, 1922 in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late Gaetano and Maria Guarino and a sister to Mary Taravella, Lucy Gelosi and Vincent Guarino (deceased). Rose was married to Jack Fran Bertelle (deceased) and they resided on Long Island until 1966; She subsequently lived in Middletown and Palenville, New York; and Margate and Clearwater, FL.

Rose enjoyed every opportunity of being with family and friends and had a great zest for life. She was referred to as a "Go Go" Grandma. Over the years she traveled and celebrated life from California to New York. Survived by her son, Ralph Bertelle, daughter-in-law Rosemary of Upstate New York; Barbara Schierhold, son-in-law Glenn, CA; and daughter Jacqueline Martell and son-in-law Gary, CA. Rose's family included seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren who she kept amused for hours.

Arrangements were made by the James Funeral Home, Massapequa. Burial Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale. A Catholic memorial service with interment took place on April 7 at which time she was laid to rest next to her husband. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established with the Columbia-Greene Community College Foundation Scholarship Fund, 4400 Route 23, Hudson, NY 12534.
