In the recently approved New York State budget, the Massapequa school district will receive an increase of 12.35 percent which represents an additional $2,449,600 for next year. The Plainedge school district will receive an increase of over 15.06 percent representing $2,025,518 more than they received in state aid last year. This increase in aid represents more than was originally proposed in the governor's budget.
"These monies are designed to protect our children's education and protect property taxpayers. It is my hope that schools will keep spending in check so that all of this relief may translate to easing the burden on over-taxed property owners," said Assemblyman Joseph Saladino. "I am very pleased to deliver the incredible increases in state aid with the help of our effective Senators Charles Fuschillo and Kemp Hannon."
The Massapequa school district will receive a total of $22,285,967 in state aid for the 2008-2009 school year. Plainedge school district (a much smaller district by student population) will receive a total of $15,473,962 for the 2008-2009 school year.
