Eagle Scout candidate Ryan Wozny of North Massapequa organized Venture Crew 53 in a massive cleanup of a half-acre of Massapequa Preserve. This area had been a dumping ground for over 25 years.

Ryan's group hauled out a truckload of junk, including used auto parts, shopping carts, concrete blocks, vinyl tarps, and landscaping refuse. After the two-day cleanup, Ryan then supervised the installation of a six-foot high chain link fence, and the posting of a "Nature Preserve" rules sign, to ensure that the area remains garbage-free.

Ryan's restoration of the preserve to its natural state was co-sponsored by the Friends of Massapequa Preserve and the L.I. Greenbelt Trail Conference.
