The Massapequa Public School District was recently notified by Albany that it has more reasons to celebrate the academic achievements of its students. In a report from the State Education Department, 141 Massapequa students from the Class of 2007 were cited for achieving exemplary scores on the Advanced Placement exams, an increase from the 98 students recognized the previous year.

"More than 950 AP exams were administered to last year's graduating class and more than one third took at least one AP class," stated Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Curriculum and Instruction Susan Woodbury at a recent Board of Education meeting, where the honored students were recognized publicly for their academic achievement.

In all, there were 81 Advanced Placement Scholars, 35 Advanced Placement Scholars with Honors, 21 Advanced Placement Scholars with Distinction, and 4 National Scholars, who achieved an average of "4" or higher on all the Advanced Placement exams taken, an extremely challenging and difficult task. These students are: Caitlin Irwin, Fayrisa Greenwald, Matthew Bayer and Liam Holland.
