The OTHG Softball League is having open registration for new players wishing to sign up for the 2008 season. To be eligible, you need to be at least 40 years old (reached at any time during the calendar year) and either a Town of Oyster Bay or Farmingdale resident. Registration will be held on Feb. 1 and 8 at Allen Park from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In person registration is required, however a registration form is available at www.othgny.com. Proof of residency required. Previous registrant not on a team must re-register.
The OTHG league is an arc-pitch (6-12') softball league that consists of 12 teams that play with rule modifications that are geared toward player safety. The league plays a 16 regular game schedule along with a year-end tournament, which are played on Friday nights at 7, 8:20 or 9:40 p.m. at Farmingdale's Allen Park and runs from mid-April through September. The level of play is strong, is highly competitive and games are very spirited.
Pre-season team vacancies are filled mostly through a blind player draft that will be held in February. Late signees and those not selected in the draft will be placed on a waiting list and be used to fill in-season vacancies. Playing for a specific team will not be accommodated (unless drafted by that team). Refusal to play for the drafting team will result in being banned from the OTHG league. The 2008 OTHG registration fee hasn't been finalized as of this date but will be approximately $130 for those selected and will be required by March 7. The 2008 registration fee for returning players is approximately $130 and will be required by Feb. 19.
