Arson Bomb Squad detectives from the Nassau County Police Department recently reported the details of a fire that occurred on Monday, Jan. 21 at 4:15 p.m. in North Massapequa.
According to detectives, North Massapequa, Massapequa, South Farmingdale, and Wantagh Fire Departments responded with 100 firemen to extinguish a fire on N. Hawthorne St. The residence was fully engulfed by fire. Five people occupied the house at the time of the fire, police reported. All occupants exited the home without injury.
The American Red Cross in Nassau County also responded to provide assistance. They provided the displaced family with temporary shelter in a nearby motel and funds for food and clothing. According to Red Cross volunteer Bruce Vesloski, trained volunteers also provided counseling to the family to help them deal with the loss of their home.
According to the Nassau County Fire Marshal and Arson Bomb Squad the source of the fire is undetermined at this time and is still under investigation.
