Runners of all ages and levels of ability from the Massapequas and the rest of Long Island are invited to join the fun on Sunday morning, Feb. 24 at Bethpage State Park for the Greater Long Island Running Club's 11th annual North Fork Bank Trail Relay.
North Fork will once again be the most generous title sponsor for the event, and The Runner's Edge running specialty store will be the presenting sponsor.
This year's Relay will be held on Sunday, Feb. 24, starting at 10:00 a.m. with the same three runner x 2 mile format that has been used in the past.
There will once again be a free snazzy commemorative shirt for everyone who enters, and $75 cash awards will be presented to the first place men's, women's and co-ed open, masters and senior master's teams. The "GLIRC Field Kitchen" will once again be on hand to provide everyone with cookies, hot chocolate, soup and muffins. There will once again be an extraordinary merchandise raffle. GLIRC's Charlie Hamilton and Carl Grossbard will put the whole show together.
Thanks to the generosity of North Fork Bank and The Runner's Edge, GLIRC is able to offer this fun morning free of charge to pre-registered members of the Greater Long Island Running Club. The cost for non-members and all day-of-race registrants is only a nominal $5 per runner.
Also thanks to the generosity of the sponsors, GLIRC once again expects to be able to make a significant donation to the Center for Developmental Disabilities, and the outstanding work they are doing to help children and adults with autism, developmental disabilities and other differing abilities achieve their dreams by overcoming barriers to living, learning, working, and recreating.
