Football season is underway and last week, both Massapequa area high school squads scored impressive victories.

After losing their first two games, Plainedge High School rebounded to defeat Glen Cove, 34-14. Plainedge's ground game was led by John Makastchian who had 155 yards rushing, including three touchdowns. Rich Rizzo had 90 yards, plus a dazzling 93-yard kickoff return to start the second half on the right note for Plainedge.

Meanwhile, Massapequa used an aerial show by Rob Von Bargen to top Plainview JFK, 40-20.

Von Bargen completed 9 of 11 passes for 263 yards and five touchdowns. Running back Joe Corderia was on the receiving end of a 65-yard touchdown pass from Von Bargen. He also ran for 137 yards and another touchdown.
