Another year at the Massapequa Public School District has begun. Students were greeted not only with a safe learning environment and new wing on Massapequa High School - Main Campus, but also with challenging and innovative curriculum updates to make them excited about learning.

On the outside of district buildings, exciting changes were evident as soon as students stepped foot onto their campuses. The Massapequa High School - Main Campus addition was completed on time, and the student government is already discussing a grounds beautification project with principal Dr. James Grossane to complete the new addition. More than 40 new parking spaces have been added to the lot, which was also newly paved this summer. The roof at Massapequa High School - Ames Campus is complete, and at Berner Middle School, students are enjoying a renovated field and new girls' locker rooms.

Many elementary level outdoor projects were completed this summer as well, including new rubberized flooring on the Birch Lane Elementary School playground, and a fixed circular driveway at Fairfield Elementary School, which has eliminated water-pooling problems of the past.

Challenging and innovative curriculum also awaited Massapequa students when they returned to school, with technology, math, and literacy taking center stage. From Robotics to RM Math, to Read 180, all programs that have been initiated and spearheaded by district administrators, Massapequa's staff has the cutting edge tools, training, and programs needed to differentiate instruction and optimize student performance.

"Much of the district curriculum is technologically-based, and uses SmartBoards not only to deliver a very visual level of instruction, but also to engage students in learning, and regularly assess their progress," said Robert Schilling, executive director for assessment, student data and technology services.
