Massapequa native Candice DiStefano, 15, scored big at the 2007 USAIGC (United States Association of Independent Gymnastics Clubs) National Ladies Gymnastics Championships in Weston FL, June 22-26.
Candice achieved the following standings at Silver Level in the 14-15 Age Group:
• Tenth Place in the country in the All Around Finals - qualifying for the individual finals on both Balance Beam and Uneven Bars.
• Eighth Place in the country in the Balance Beam Individual Finals
• First Place (tie) in the country (Gold Medal) in the Uneven Bars Individual Finals - defending her title as New York State Champion on Uneven Bars from May 2007.
Candice competed with her team from Nassau Gymnastics Center (NGC) in Bellmore. The NGC teams, directed by Karl and Ruth Kopecky and coached by Kathryn Foray and Tracy Stoecker, also had a number of other team members placing nationally. The Silver Team also placed 14th in the nation, while the Bronze Team placed seventh.
Candice also competes as a member of the Massapequa High School Varsity Girls Gymnastics Team.
