Literacy Nassau's 26h Annual Recognition Night, held at Nassau Community College, celebrated the outstanding efforts of volunteers, students and others who contributed to the cause of adult literacy in Nassau County.

The successful event held annually, showcases the literacy achievements of the tutors and students. This year's Students of the Year were Mike Mastropolo from Plainview and Karen Chen of Syosset. The organization recognized Sandy Pesce of Massapequa Park as Tutor of the Year and Lucenda Williams of Freeport as the Student Volunteer of the Year.

Sharrel Kamah, resident of Massapequa, was thrilled to accept her award as Volunteer of the Year. Rounding out the award presentations was the recognition of Pearl Cantor of Baldwin, who has volunteered as a tutor for 30 years. Helping to celebrate the wonderful evening were all of the Student Authors who autographed everyone's copy of Open Door, which was graciously printed and donated by Citibank.
