The team is different, but the results remain the same.
This past Sunday, the Massapequa Chiefs defeated Connetquot, 10-4 to win their second consecutive Class Long Island high school baseball championship.
Last year, the Chiefs sported an amazing 29-0 record while on their way to not just the Long Island, but the New York State title.
This year was more of a grind. The Chiefs finished the season with a winning 19-9 mark, but they hit their stride at the right time. In taking the top team in Suffolk County, the Chiefs put together a nine-run second inning to give them an insurmountable lead en route to the 10-4 win.
With another county title under their belts, the Chiefs will travel to Binghamton this Saturday for a 10:00 a.m. game against an undetermined opponent.
