The following is a summary of actions taken by the Massapequa Board of Education at its regularly scheduled meeting on April 19.
The board of education received the following reports:
• Superintendent's Report including recognition of retiring faculty, an update on the district's relationship with the American Red Cross and McKenna's designation as an emergency shelter.
• Presentation from Class Rank committee members on their recommendation to discontinue the practice of identifying class rank.
• Unqua Principal Diana Haanraadts and English Curriculum Associate Kathleen O'Farrell presented an update on grade four core literature programs.
• Mrs. Arlene Martin gave an update on a recent meeting of the District's Audit Committee.
The board of education acted on a variety of new business, including:
• Discussion of Proposed Policy 4741.1 Valedictorian and Salutatorian.
• Resolution to accept the Special Education Plan for District Policies, Practices & Procedures for Assuring Appropriate Education Services and Due Process In Evaluation and Placement of Students with Disabilities dated January 2007 to December 2009.
• Resolution to set the elementary and secondary lunch prices at $1.70 and $1.80 respectively effective for the 2007/08 school year.
• Resolution to accept a donation from Mrs. Francesca Imbrogno of three new books for the Birch Lane School Library Birthday Club.
