Plan to Assist Plainedge Schools
State Senator Kemp Hannon recently announced the Senate approved its 2007-08 state budget plan for education that adds $358 million in school aid, which generates over $514 million on a school year basis, to the governor's school aid package to ensure a fair distribution of school aid to districts throughout the state. The budget represents the largest school aid increase in the history of New York.

St. David's joined with the other faiths in Massapequa to observe World Day of Prayer on March 2. The observance was held in the Christian Science Church located at the corner of Biltmore Boulevard and Merrick Road in Massapequa.

Gladiators Shine In Soccer Tourney
The Massapequa Gladiators Boys UB soccer team led by Coach Christopher Schmitt took second place in the East Meadow indoor soccer tournament, which took place in late February. Team members include: Gabriel Campos, Holden Valentine, Alessandro Sambone, Brendan Nichtern, Gregg Wright, Matthew Pinto, and Kyle Howard. Holden Valentine earned recognition as the tournament's Most Valuable Defensive Player.

Hike for Discovery Fundraiser
During the March meeting of the Homemakers Council - Massapequa Park Day Chapter held in the St. David's Lutheran Church's Fellowship Hall, Mrs. Janine DiVerde, a volunteer with Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's "Hike for Discovery," asked for table space for a fundraising raffle. Mrs. DiVerde received beautifully wrapped baskets of goodies from local merchants that she displayed to sell tickets for a drawing at the close of the Homemakers' meeting. Mrs. DiVerde was very pleased with the money raised for the "Hike for Discovery" cause.
