On Saturday, March 24 and Sunday, March 25, the American Black Belt Academy, along with the Worldwide Kenpo Karate Association, will host The American Karate Championships 2007.

The tournament will be held at Massapequa High School, 4925 Merrick Road, Massapequa and will coincide with the academy's annual food drive for The St. Rose of Lima Outreach Program.

This event is open to all local residents. There you will see competitors from throughout the United States showing off their karate expertise.

The tournament will begin Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. with team demonstrations, team sparring, self-defense and board breaking divisions. Sunday the competition will start again at 10 a.m. with forms, weapons and sparring divisions.

Admission for this exciting event is $8 for adults and $3 for children. Children under 5 will be admitted free of charge.

Families attending are being asked to bring a donation of non-perishable food that will be collected at the entrance door. Anyone else interested in making a donation may drop it by the karate school, which is located at 4883 Merrick Road, Massapequa Park, one block west of Massapequa High School.
