Local runners of all ages and levels of ability are invited to join in the fun on Saturday, March 31 at the 30th annual Nationwide Insurance 10 Kilometer Run for ASPIRE, Long Island's oldest continuously held 10 Kilometer Run.

The Massapequa Park Nationwide Insurance agency of Anthony Wiszowaty has stepped forth once again to be the title sponsor, and the entire net proceeds of the event are once again being turned over to the ASPIRE Program for the rehabilitation of young amputees, and ASPIRE's Stanley Kramberg Memorial Scholarship Fund. The Wiszowaty Agency is located at 4863 Merrick Road in Massapequa Park.

The 2007 Run will be utilizing the same course through the roads of Plainview and Old Bethpage that has been the venue in the past, once again starting and finishing at the H.B. Mattlin Middle School on Washington Avenue in Plainview. Race Director Bob Windorf of the host Greater Long Island Running Club is putting together an event that promises to be the best ever, with lots of surprises.

In order to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Run in style, the Greater Long Island Running Club is offering a $500 prize if the first male runner to cross the finish line breaks the course record of 30:27 set by Pat Peterson in 1988, and a $500 prize if the first female runner to cross the finish line breaks the course record of 34:55 set by Angela Hearn in 1989.

In addition to the Nationwide Wiszowaty Agency in Massapequa Park, thanks also for continued support to Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto, to all the good folks from the Town's Department of Recreation and Parks, and to presenting sponsors The Runner's Edge, and "Trader Joe's." Mizuno will be back once again as the official shoe company sponsor. The "ASPIRE Run family" continues to make this a premiere event.

The Run will continue to provide awards in five-year age groups through 85 plus. Top Male and Female Overall and top Male and Female Masters take home a pair of Mizuno running shoes. Every entrant in the 10K gets one of the classic long sleeve Run for ASPIRE shirts.

The 10 Kilometer Run will be preceded by a Fun Run for the youngsters on the grounds of the Mattlin Middle School.

Other ASPIRE Run features include free massage and lots of raffles to cap the post-Run Awards Ceremony.

The entry fee is only $18 for those who preregister, with a 50 percent discount for runners 16 and under. The day-of-race entry fee will be $25. The entry fee for the Kids Fun Run is $7.00 for those who preregister, $8.00 day-of-race.

For entry forms or more information call Linda at the GLIRC office at 349-7646, or you can register online at www.glirc.org.
