For the second year in a row, Thanksgiving Sunday turned out to be one of the most beautiful days of the autumn, and a record field of 530 intrepid cross-country runners showed up to enjoy a perfect morning of running through the trails of Stillwell Woods in Syosset.
Runners from the Massapequas and Farmingdale were well represented in the 2006 edition of Rob's Run.
Jen Campbell of South Farmingdale was the 5th woman overall to cross the finish line, and took home the first place award in the women's 20-24 age group.
Trisha Fasini of North Massapequa scored 2nd in the women's 25-29 age group.
Karen Conkling of Massapequa Park earned top honors among the women in the 40-44 age group.
Seventy-five year-old Howard Kestenbaum of Massapequa Park was the oldest finisher and scored first in the 75 and over age group.
In the team competition, the "Massapequa Mudders" - made up of Richard Bury, Raymond Aures, Karen Conkling and Paula MacCulloch, took 3rd place in the Coed Masters Team competition.
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto, Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Rose Walker, Oyster Bay Parks Commissioner Richard Betz, and Oyster Bay Town Recreation Supervisor Diane Blanchard once again came through with the support that made the event possible.
