Two-time Super Bowl Champion Sean Landeta and Last Licks - "The Sports Bar for Kids" - in Massapequa will be helping a 3-year-old Merrick girl from noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday, December 3 as she fights to lick a rare form of cancer.
Shannon Gleason, daughter of a former captain of the Merrick Fire Department's Empire Hose Company No. 3, was diagnosed in June with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma. That is a rare form of muscular cancer, which only strikes about 350 Americans each year. Shannon already has had surgery and her treatment requires aggressive chemotherapy that can lead to the need for blood and platelet transfusions and possibly a bone marrow transplant.
To help offset the Gleason family's mounting medical costs, the Friends of Shannon Gleason are hosting an ice cream and memorabilia fundraiser at Last Licks in Massapequa.
Sean Landeta, winner of two Super Bowls with the New York Giants, will be at Last Licks to sign autographs from 4 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3 and all proceeds from autograph sales will be donated to the Gleason family.
In addition, "The Sports Bar for Kids" also will donate a portion of all its proceeds between noon and 8 p.m. on that date.
Last Licks of Massapequa is located at 4960 Merrick Road, across from Massapequa High School in the Southgate Shopping Center. For more information, visit Last Licks on the Web at www.last-licks.com.
