The Massapequas celebrated Veterans Day on Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Cpl. Albert F. Klestinec Jr. Plaza at Broadway and Franklin Avenue. Formerly known as Armistice Day in 1954, the day was renamed Veterans Day in the United States in honor of those who served their country.
The 11 a.m. service was attended by all of Massapequa's Veterans organizations, Boy Scout Troops and many friends and neighbors. The program was organized by American Legion Post 1066.
Jack Hipp, Commander of Post 1066 acknowledged all of the Veterans and Scout organizations in attendance by name , then introduced the elected officials, including Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor John Venditto, a Massapequa resident, who addressed the crowd.
Hipp introduced Ed Harney Jr., Chaplain of Post 1066, who gave the memorial prayer.
