Recently, Massapequa Judo athletes competed at the 40th Annual East Coast Judo Championship held on October 7 and 8 at an arena in Newark, NJ.

The Combat Judo Team at Judo Sports, located at 1139 North Broadway in Massapequa, had four medalists at this elite competition.

Combat Judo Sensei Mark Staniszewski earned a silver medal in the heavyweight division; team members: Dan Jackson earned a silver medal; Maria Didio earned a bronze medal; and Mike Paris earned a bronze medal in their respective divisions.

Athletes from across the USA were in attendance as well as representatives from Russia, Germany, Ukraine, Poland, Haiti, and Brazil, in preparation for the upcoming U.S. Open Judo Championship and North American Grappling Championship.
