Last week, Massapequa led all the way in route to a 28-12 win over Port Washington. This past Saturday, however, the Chiefs outlasted Baldwin in a three-overtime thriller, prevailing by a 34-31 tally.
Jon Pesce, who was the Chiefs offensive star throughout the day, scored a six-yard touchdown in the third overtime to give Massapequa its hard-fought victory.
The touchdown ended a game which saw several lead changes and ties in all three overtimes.
Tied 7-7 at halftime, Massapequa grabbed a 14-7 lead in the third quarter. However, Baldwin tied it in the final frame, on a touchdown pass with only five minutes left in regulation.
In the overtime periods, a six-yard touchdown run by Pesce tied the game in the first overtime. In the second overtime, Massapequa grabbed the lead on a six-yard touchdown pass by Stephen Bentz to Frank Conrad only to see Baldwin tie it on an 11-yard touchdown run by Anthony Williams.
In the third overtime, a 26-yard field goal by Zach Rogers gave Baldwin a 31-28 lead, setting the stage for Pesce's final heroics.
The win gave Massapequa a 2-2 record in Conference I play.
