The United States Postal Service will dedicate the Massapequa Post Office in honor of Gerard Fiorenza. The dedication ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at the Massapequa Post Office located at 80 Killians Road, Massapequa.

Gerard Fiorenza served as the Postmaster of Massapequa from 1997 to his death in 2001. He joined the Postal Service as a letter carrier in Jamaica in 1972. He was a former postmaster of the Hewlett and Massapequa Park Post Offices.

Fiorenza was deeply involved with his community and the postal service. He served as a member of the Massapequa Chamber of Commerce, the Sons of Italy, the Columbia Association, American Legion Post 1066 and the Republican Club, who selected him as Massapequa's 2001 Man of the Year. He served as a president of New York State Chapter of the National Association of Postmasters and as the Postal Service's Long Island District Combined Federal Campaign coordinator.

Congressman Peter King, who sponsored the legislation naming Massapequa Post Office for Mr. Fiorenza will participate in the post office dedication ceremony. He will be joined by the Fiorenza family, Thomas F. Rosati, postal service's Long Island district manager/executive-in-charge and a host of postal service and community dignitaries.
