World Trade Center architect Minoru Yamasaki, who passed away in 1986, once stated, "I feel this way about it. World trade means world peace and consequently the World Trade Center buildings in New York...had a bigger purpose than just to provide room for tenants. The World Trade Center is a living symbol of man's dedication to world peace...beyond the compelling need to make this a monument to world peace, the World Trade Center should, because of its importance, become a representation of man's belief in humanity, his need for individual dignity, his beliefs in the cooperation of men, and through cooperation, his ability to find greatness."
The Long Island Junior Soccer League was the most affected sports
organization with 41 deaths on Sept. 11. As we observe the fifth anniversary
of that tragic day, the LIJSL would like to again remember those who
perished much too soon.
Among those who met a tragic end on Sept. 11 were Timothy Haskell and Thomas T. Haskell, Jr., both of the New York City Fire Department.
Some of those who perished have had other tributes dedicated
to them by their local soccer clubs, such as the renaming of soccer fields.
