Runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes from the Massapequas and surrounding communities are invited to accept the challenge of the Oyster Bay Town Supervisor's Oyster Festival 5 Kilometer Run. The Run will take place on Saturday, Oct. 14 and start promptly at 9:00 a.m.

The Run will start on South Street in the heart of downtown Oyster Bay. It will head up Berry Hill Road, turn Sandy Hill Road, with a finish on East Main Street to Townsend Square.

Registration will be in the Community Center in Townsend Square Parking Lot just off East Main Street, with overflow parking available in the parking lot of the First Presbyterian Church and the parking lot of Oyster Bay-East Norwich High School.

The Run will once again be part of the Long Island Track & Field Grand Prix of Long Island Road Races, with outstanding refreshments, excellent raffles, and awards five deep in five year age groups through 80 plus.

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and a donation from the Run proceeds will go to the Maurer Foundation for Breast Health Education.

The 2005 Run was won by 23 year-old Matt Uzenski of the Bellmore Striders and 23 year-old Lyndsey Webber of the Super Runners Racing Team.

The top finishers from the Massapequas included Kristin Daly of Massapequa, who was the top finisher among the women in the 20-24 age group, Kristin's dad John Daly, who earned 5th place honors in the 50-54 age group, Greg Karl of Massapequa Park, who scored second in the 55-59 age group, John Niesen of Massapequa Park, who scored as the third place finisher in the 75-79 age group.

Race organizers are hopeful that all the top finishers will be back again in 2006, and look for an especially big turnout from the Massapequas.
