Massapequa area youth may be among the next generation of lifeguards as they spend this summer training as members of the Jones Beach Lifeguard Corps Junior Lifeguard Program sponsored by FPL Energy.
Participants include Joseph Brandt (age 15), Chris Burke (age 11), Taylor Lotito (age 9), Samantha Lotito (age 11), Sara Storti (age 9), and Daniel Wallace (age 13) of Massapequa; from Massapequa Park Kim Corso (age 12) and Thomas Lee (age 15); and North Massapequa's Gina Riggio (age 10).
Each Sunday morning the Jones Beach Lifeguard Corps teaches children age 9-16 in the skills needed to be an ocean lifeguard. In addition, the lifeguards share a lifetime of safety and environmental skills that shape the way these young Long Islander's view the beach and the environment as a whole.
This is the third year that FPL Energy has sponsored the Jones Beach Lifeguard Corps' Junior Lifeguard Program. Recognized for its environmental stewardship around the country by organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund and the US Coast Guard, FPL Energy is proud to support the Junior Lifeguard Program as it teaches a new generation to protect the future of Long Island's waterfront.
