Our servicemen are still in Iraq and Afghanistan. You can help to brighten their spirits by sending them a letter, a card or donating needed items. The Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of the Island Council #6911, has been operating a program entitled Adopt-a-Battalion. We are currently sponsoring approximately 2,000 military personnel who do not have available access to a PX facility. Items needed are pocket-size toothpaste, solid deodorant, toothbrushes, alcohol-free moist wipes, foot powder, soap, snacks such as beef jerky, granola bars, candy, gum, cookies, Crystal Lite powdered drinks or Cup-o-Noodles. Other popular items in demand are pens, pencils, disposable cameras, global phone cards, batteries, flashlights, etc.

Donated items can be dropped off at our Council on Saturday mornings between 9 a.m. and noon. Donations to offset the price of shopping are also appreciated. Checks should be made payable to the Knights of Columbus #6911, A.A.B. and sent to 2 Eastgate Road, Massapequa Park, NY 11762. Thanks to your support, since its inception in November 2004, we have been able to ship over 1,000 cartons of snacks and toiletries. Also as part of our program, 5,000 letters from school children, expressing their hope and concern for their swift and safe return home, have been sent to the military personnel we sponsor.
