The Massapequa Public School District is proud to announce that for the second consecutive year, Massapequa has made the list of "high performing school districts" recently released by the New York State Education Department.
In addition, Berner Middle School and Massapequa High School were each recognized as a "higher performing/gap closing school." "Our school has been so designated because it met all applicable state standards for English Language Arts and math during the past two years," stated Berner Middle School Principal Steven Scarallo. "I am thankful to our entire school community since we have collectively earned this recognition."
Massapequa High School Principal James Maloney commented, "As I bring my professional career as an educator to a close, it is certainly gratifying for our school to receive this recognition from the New York State Board of Regents. Credit for this honor, however, primarily belongs to our faculty who, through their hard work and dedication, is the reason why Massapequa High School continues to be regarded as one of the premier high schools on Long Island."
According to a statement released by the New York State Education Department, "Schools and districts that met all applicable state standards in English Language Arts and mathematics in 2004-2005 and that made 'Adequate Yearly Progress' in both 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 on all applicable English Language Arts, mathematics, science, and graduation rate criteria were eligible to be recognized" as high performing schools.
